About The Position

Programming designed to strengthen local youth opportunity ecosystems by ensuring that young people have engaging, safe, and youth-driven out-of-school time opportunities. The paid component for youth ages 16-24 supports work readiness and social development through positive mentorship and leadership training.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in youth programs, recreation, SEL, mentoring, or after-school activities.
  • Experience in program planning, group facilitation, and youth engagement is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of youth development principles and positive behavior management strategies.
  • Ability to design and lead interactive, educational, and engaging activities.
  • Exhibit strong leadership abilities.
  • Ability to relate to diverse population.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to connect with youth and families.
  • Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Possess the ability to fulfill and any all activities normally expected in a classroom setting, to include, but not limited to active participation in group activities.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-30 pounds.
  • The applicant must submit to a criminal background check and adult abuse and neglect screening and maintain a cleared status throughout employment.
  • The applicant must submit MMR, Tdap and pass a TB and immunization health screen upon hire and update TB/physicals as required by the licensing standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Youth Development, Education, Recreation, Social Work, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as a leader and advocate in your community, promoting safety, youth voice, and agency.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of community events and youth-driven "Kickback" gatherings.
  • Participating in mentorship, work readiness workshops, and leadership training.
  • Participating in specific program focuses, such as energy conservation (ComEd ambassadors) or civic awareness.
  • Representing the city, hosting dialogues, and presenting at conferences or media events.
