About The Position

This position will serve as a positive role model for staff and youth in the facility. They will offer the opportunity to build positive relationships and ensure youth are actively involved and engaged in Westside Recreation activities. Additionally, this position will have hands-on experience leading youth through orientations, special events, and leadership programs. This person will assist in the supervision and implementation of training of frontline staff in youth behaviours and operational procedures, and program enrichment. This person will assist in the review of applicable procedures/practices and help create change and resources to further help staff. This position reports to the Child and Youth Programmer - Youth Experience and Events. Evening and weekend work required. This position is funded through the Government of Canada- Summer Jobs program. You must be aged between 18-30Y and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.

Requirements

  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Experience working with youth
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Search required

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of staff and volunteers
  • To complete administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, program administration, and program development
  • Maintenance and safety of program areas, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist in the implementation of the Badminton Rotation System
  • Youth behavior management
  • Planning and delivering Youth Appreciation Nights
  • Be actively involved with the risk management of department areas, including Safe Work Procedures, inspections, and WHMIS requirements
  • Take on a supervisory role within the C&Y department to provide coverage, staff supervision, and team collaboration when required
