About The Position

The City of Cottonwood Heights is seeking a dedicated and community-minded individual to serve as the Youth City Council (YCC) Advisor. This volunteer position plays a vital role in mentoring youth leaders and fostering civic engagement within our community. The Youth City Council Advisor serves as a facilitator, mentor, and liaison-guiding youth participants as they develop leadership skills, participate in local government, and engage in meaningful service projects that benefit the Cottonwood Heights community.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
At least two (2) years of experience working with youth, volunteer programs, education, community engagement, or a related field
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Must pass a background check
Valid Utah driver's license may be required

Experience with youth development and group facilitation

Responsibilities

Plan and facilitate regular Youth City Council meetings
Mentor youth members in leadership, teamwork, and civic responsibility
Guide youth officers in developing goals and annual work plans
Coordinate community service projects, events, and educational activities
Serve as a liaison between youth members, City staff, elected officials, and community partners
Support recruitment and selection of Youth City Council members
Promote civic awareness and participation in local government
Maintain program records, including agendas, attendance, and documentation
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and structured environment for all participants
