About The Position

The Youth Career Advisor provides professional advice to customers who want job search guidance, career advice or placement. They will work to evaluate a customer’s background, training, and education to help develop realistic career goals. This role involves conducting outreach and recruitment of youth customers and managing them through their career exploration. The advisor will develop relationships, listen to customer needs, identify skills and abilities, evaluate past work experience, and conduct assessments to identify strengths and address challenges. Collaboration with customers to establish short and long-term employment and career goals is key. The position also requires maintaining contacts with community organizations for outreach, recruitment, and public relations, and leveraging external resources for optimal outcomes. The advisor will advocate for customers and connect them to other services when Workforce Solutions cannot meet their needs, providing ongoing communication, coaching, and support to help customers achieve their goals. Additionally, they will help customers access financial aid and other services, provide employment-related counseling, share local labor market information, and facilitate career events and workshops on topics like resume writing, interviewing, networking, and industry research.

Requirements

  • 2 years of work experience in case management, workforce development, youth services, and/or career coaching.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts outreach and recruitment of youth customers.
  • Manages customers in their career exploration, including developing relationships, listening to wants and needs, identifying skills and abilities, evaluating past work experience, and conducting thorough assessments.
  • Collaborates to establish short and long-term employment and career goals.
  • Conducts and maintains contacts with community organizations for outreach, recruitment, and positive public relations.
  • Leverages external and system resources to achieve the most effective outcomes.
  • Advocates for the customer and provides other resources and contacts when Workforce Solutions cannot meet the customer’s needs.
  • Provide ongoing communication to ensure customer’s needs are met and maintains contact with the individual to coach and support, recognize benchmarks, and achieve goals.
  • Helps customers access other services and resources they may want or need, including Workforce Solutions’ financial aid.
  • Provide professional employment-related counseling and advice about local labor market information, career exploration tools, resources, and job search.
  • Facilitate career events, presentations, and workshops associated with resume writing, interviewing skills, networking, and industry research.
