About The Position

The TLS Youth Care Counselor (YCC) (Night Shift) provide for the supervision, care and protection of all residents during night hours. The YCC helps develop an atmosphere within the TLS Program where residents can learn to live more independently and establish themselves as a young adult. A large part of the YCC’s role is to provide support and supervision to assist residents with career, education, and permanent housing goals; assist with meeting physical and emotional needs; managing social demands; training and guiding young adults in the TLS program as needed, within the night shift role.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. degree required and/or equivalent related experience.
  • Personal characteristics to be able to work effectively with the residential setting, as well as adequate knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Ability to be comfortable with the adolescents and be responsive to their needs.
  • Possesses the moral integrity, sense of values and a social commitment of the highest standards as required of all staff dealing with adolescents and young adults.
  • Able to handle crises.
  • Must be able to work four (4) 10-hour shifts each week, weeknights and/or weekends (8:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M.)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • All agency employees must maintain confidentiality of client and case information and may not access information unless directly related to their job responsibilities and duties.
  • Valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance; have and maintain a clean driving record acceptable to the organization’s insurance company.
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a TB test, physical exam, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nightly oversight, protection and care of residents.
  • Implements limits within the living setting by enforcing housing guidelines on a consistent level.
  • Provide role modeling, understanding, and guidance in order to promote self-awareness within the resident, while promoting independent living skills.
  • Provided for the residents' emotional and physical well-being.
  • Familiarizes self with the principles of trauma informed care and harm reduction, to assist residents in addressing their needs and functioning effectively with a shared living setting.
  • Document nightly log notations with regular status updates and maintain communications with Emergency Response Command Post social workers, to assess possible emergency placements.
  • Attends and participates in mandatory trainings, staff meeting and in-services, as required.
  • Maintains resident records, incident logs and nightly log entries.
  • Report and document all special incidents, per protocol.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well with others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
