About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to work with Day Camp Supervisors to assist in the supervision of groups of children from activity to activity during the duration of the camp program. This role involves assisting in the daily operations of the camp program, preparing activity areas, implementing camp activities, and maintaining materials, equipment, and the facility. The counselor is expected to demonstrate imagination and resourcefulness, attend staff meetings, report injuries, and assist the Camp Supervisor with the schedule of activities. Additionally, the role requires maintaining a safe and clean work environment, resolving minor differences between children, reporting serious discipline problems, and ensuring equipment is in safe and operational condition.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Supplemented by experience in programming and supervising activities for children ages 5 – 12 or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Must be nurturing, organized, creative and resourceful
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with young children, parents, and staff
  • Must be a role model for children
  • Must possess the knowledge and skill to apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred

Responsibilities
