Our work helps prevent unnecessary arrests, court cases, and hospitalizations—empowering both professionals and the people they serve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Science-related field.
  • Must meet the Missouri Department of Mental Health criteria for Community Support Specialist.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth with mental health disorders, substance use disorders, or developmental disabilities.
  • A valid automobile driver’s license, appropriate automobile insurance, and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work.
  • Working knowledge of mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as email.

Responsibilities

  • Connect youth with co-occurring mental health, substance use, and/or developmental needs to appropriate community-based services.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships across behavioral health providers, schools, courts, and community agencies to improve youth outcomes.
  • Support diversion from hospitalization, detention, and residential placements by promoting family- and community-based care.
  • Collaborate with crisis intervention teams, including ACI and law enforcement, to assess and coordinate care for youth in crisis.
  • Monitor client needs, respond to symptom escalation, and provide education on symptom management.
  • Facilitate a monthly evening recovery group through Lee’s Summit Youth Court.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.
  • Partner with internal multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and support overall client wellness.
