About The Position

The Youth Basketball Site Coordinator oversees the basketball program at their designated site, which can be the Boys & Girls Club, Champlain Elementary School, or Hunt Middle School. This role requires availability on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, from December 5th to February 13th. The position is non-union and pays between $20.15-$21.15 hourly. It is classified as Remote Tier 1, meaning zero remote work days per week.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
  • Knowledge of sport specific rules and regulations.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Must have a desire to work with children and demonstrate enthusiasm, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Must be able to effectively enforce rules and code of conduct.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to work weekends as required.
  • Hold or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification upon hiring.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a leadership position.
  • Prior experience working with children in an athletics camp/program and/or league setting is desirable.
  • Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation preferred.
  • College course work in Education, childhood development, family studies, or recreation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all departmental rules and regulations.
  • Oversee Fun Day, Saturday practices leading up to the season, and youth league games.
  • Assist Athletics Program Manager in supervising volunteer coaches.
  • Officiate and do scorekeeping as needed.
  • Check the area for safety hazards and report deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Report all accidents/incidents occurring within jurisdiction to the supervisor.
  • Administer proper First Aid as required.
  • Be on site 30 minutes before the program starts for set up/preparation and to ensure the playing area is safe and ready for use (e.g., chairs, tables, sweeping floor, portable baskets).
  • Tear down and clean up at the conclusion of the program.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
  • Communicate with participants, volunteers, referees, and other staff in a professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
