About The Position
Norwalk Parks & Recreation is hiring Youth Basketball Referees, ages 14 and older, for the upcoming basketball season. This role offers an opportunity to earn extra money while helping kids learn and enjoy the game. The position is suitable for individuals with or without prior officiating experience. Youth Basketball Referees are responsible for creating a fun, safe, and positive experience for young athletes, ensuring games run smoothly, and applying league rules fairly.
Requirements
- Are at least 14 years old
- Enjoy basketball and working with kids
- Are dependable and comfortable communicating with others
- Can remain calm and make decisions during a fast-moving game
- Want a flexible seasonal job that keeps you involved in sports
- Bring their own whistle
- Bring athletic attire
- Bring a clean pair of tennis shoes
- Have reliable transportation to and from the Fieldhouse
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience officiating or working with children is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Officiate youth basketball games for 1st–2nd, 3rd–4th, and 5th–6th grade divisions
- Apply and explain league rules during games
- Communicate positively and professionally with players, coaches, and Parks & Recreation staff
- Work with Facility Supervisors to help games run smoothly
- Encourage good sportsmanship and a positive environment for young athletes
