About The Position
Associated Recreation Council (ARC), in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), provides inclusive, high-quality recreation, enrichment, and lifelong learning programs for people of all ages. SPR and ARC are seeking Basketball Officials for the 2026-2027 youth basketball season! This role is ideal for coaches, PE teachers, or anyone dedicated to youth development and sportsmanship. If you're enthusiastic about the game and love working with young athletes, we want YOU to join our team! This is a citywide position, meaning you may be asked to officiate games at various community centers and schools across Seattle. Flexibility is key! The season duration is December through March. Training sessions will be held in December to ensure you're prepared for the season. No prior officiating experience? No problem – we’ll provide all the necessary training. Requirements
- Knowledge of basketball rules and game management.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Commitment to positive reinforcement and sportsmanship.
- Punctuality and dependability.
- Ability to officiate games anywhere in Seattle.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Nice To Haves
- Experience coaching or teaching youth.
Responsibilities
- Officiate youth basketball games for various age groups on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- Ensure games are played according to basketball rules.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play on and off the court.
- Manage games effectively and resolve conflicts.
- Be punctual and dependable for all scheduled shifts.
- Officiate games at various community centers and schools across Seattle.
- Participate in officials' training and orientation.
