About The Position

i9 Sports is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated Youth Basketball Instructor & Official to join their team. This role involves teaching fundamental basketball skills, officiating games, facilitating practices, and ensuring a fun, safe, and educational experience for all participants. The position is specifically for weekend shifts only, with a schedule of 6 Saturdays for the Fall League from September 12th to October 18th, 2026. The location for Saturdays is Patuxent Valley Middle School from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The organization's mission is to help kids succeed in life through sports, offering high-quality, community-focused sports programs for boys and girls ages 3-14.

Requirements

• Previous experience coaching, officiating, or playing basketball is required.
• Strong understanding of basketball rules, regulations, and gameplay.
• High patience, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults.
• Ability to confidently manage groups and motivate others (including volunteer coaches).
• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Must have a reliable personal vehicle/transportation.
• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
• Must be extremely reliable, punctual, and committed to working consecutive weekends.

Responsibilities

• Teach young athletes fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending.
• Implement age-appropriate drills and exercises using practice plans fully created and provided by i9 Sports.
• Provide encouraging, constructive feedback to help players improve their skills and confidence.
• Complete mandatory, financially compensated pre-season training sessions.
• Serve as the official referee for youth basketball games, ensuring fair play and adherence to league rules.
• Maintain a professional, authoritative, and unbiased demeanor on the court.
• Address rule violations and resolve on-court conflicts with fairness and diplomacy.
• Prioritize and ensure the physical and emotional safety of all participants during practices and games.
• Supervise and manage groups of young athletes, maintaining a positive, inclusive, and high-energy atmosphere.
• Promptly address and report any safety concerns or injuries.
• Maintain open, positive, and effective communication with parents, participants, and fellow staff.
• Provide program updates and coordinate schedules via the Connecteam app.
• Motivate, guide, and manage volunteer parent coaches to ensure league alignment.
