About The Position

This Youth Apprentice position in the NSG Medical Intermediate Care unit at Roper Hospital is designed to assist staff by performing clerical and/or patient care duties under the direction of healthcare professionals. The role involves coordinating care with team members to provide exceptional patient service. Depending on the specific track, duties may include receptionist tasks, direct patient care, IT support, HVAC assistance, or pharmacy technician support.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in High School as a Junior or Senior or HS Diploma/GED required.
  • Must be accepted into the Trident Technical College Youth Apprenticeship Program.
  • Continued participation in the Trident Technical College Youth Apprenticeship program is required.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to use computer programs.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and be able to perform data entry with high accuracy.
  • A current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider certification is not required upon hire but must be completed within the Trident Technical College Apprenticeship Program scheduled requirements to function in the PCT role.
  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification is not required upon hire but must be completed within the Trident Technical College Apprenticeship Program scheduled requirements to function in the PCT role.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately post charges and payments/balances at end of day/make deposits.
  • Greet, instruct, and direct patients, and handle all telephone calls.
  • Collect co-pays/deductibles at time of service.
  • Make referrals/verify insurance approvals as necessary.
  • Pull charts for next day’s work/file charts as necessary.
  • Perform delegated direct patient care activities under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Report conditions of patients including changes or abnormal findings to appropriate registered nurse.
  • Document VS and ADLs concurrently in appropriate format and notify RN/LPN with abnormal variations.
  • Provide nursing care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity and acknowledges patient rights and identifies resources to meet patient needs.
  • Act as a patient advocate.
  • Correctly and efficiently transcribe physician orders to include computer order entry.
  • Manage helpdesk service request system (enter, modify, and close tickets).
  • Install and build a basic PC load (OS, virus protection, drivers, software, plugins, temporary files, defrag PC and sysprep PC).
  • Build a Ghost Book Disk, capture an Image of a PC and Restore an Image to a PC.
  • Migrate end user information from one PC to another (Mapped, peripherals, extra software, back-up files, and setup files).
  • Install PC Peripherals (Printers and Scanners).
  • Troubleshoot basic PC and printer problems.
  • Oversee installations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC/R equipment.
  • Apply local HVAC codes in a practical manner on each job.
  • Provide technical support in the field.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering to develop product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Layout, design and install low voltage wiring.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist the pharmacist in preparation of medications for patients within an inpatient service area.
  • Prepare and affix labels, stock prescriptions medications and retrieve those medications from inventory locations.
  • Operate technology used for medication dispensing (TALYST Carousel, PYXIS Automated Dispensing Cabinets).
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, in accordance with State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
  • Exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
