About The Position

This Youth Apprentice position at Roper Hospital's NSG Medical Intermediate Care (6 EAST) unit assists staff by performing clerical and/or patient care duties under the direction of healthcare professionals. The role involves coordinating care to provide exceptional patient service and may include various functions depending on the specific track: MD Receptionist (Medical Office Assistant), PCT (Pre-Nursing/CNA), IT (Computer Support Specialist), HVAC (HVAC Technician), or Pharmacy Technician. The position requires enrollment in and continued participation in the Trident Technical College Youth Apprenticeship Program.

Requirements

  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and be able to perform data entry with high accuracy.
  • Currently enrolled in High School as a Junior or Senior or HS Diploma/GED.
  • Must be accepted into the Trident Technical College Youth Apprenticeship Program, and continued participation in the Trident Technical College Youth Apprenticeship program is to meet the minimum qualifications for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • A current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider certification is not upon hire but must be completed within the Trident Technical College Apprenticeship Program scheduled requirements to function in the PCT role.
  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification is not upon hire but must be completed within the Trident Technical College Apprenticeship Program scheduled requirements to function in the PCT role.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately posts charges and payments/balances at end of day/makes deposits.
  • Greets, instructs, directs patients, and handles all telephone calls.
  • Collects co-pays/deductibles at time of service.
  • Makes referrals/verifies insurance approvals as necessary.
  • Pulls charts for next day’s work/files charts as necessary.
  • Performs delegated direct patient care activities under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Reports conditions of patients including changes or abnormal findings to appropriate registered nurse.
  • Documents VS and ADLs concurrently in appropriate format and notifies RN/LPN with abnormal variations.
  • Provides nursing care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity and acknowledges patient rights and identifies resources to meet patient needs.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
  • Correctly and efficiently transcribes physician orders to include computer order entry.
  • Manage helpdesk service request system (enter, modify , and close tickets).
  • Install and build a basic PC load (OS, virus protection, drivers, software, plugins, temporary files, defrag PC and sysprep PC).
  • Build a Ghost Book Disk, capture an Image of a PC and Restore an Image to a PC.
  • Migrate end user information from one PC to another (Mapped, peripherals, extra software, back-up files, and setup files).
  • Install PC Peripherals (Printers and Scanners).
  • Troubleshoot basic PC and printer problems.
  • Overseeing installations
  • Troubleshooting and repairing HVAC/R equipment.
  • Applying local HVAC codes in a practical manner on each job.
  • Provide technical support in the field.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering to develop product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Layout, design and install low voltage wiring.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assisting the pharmacist in preparation of medications for patients within an inpatient service area.
  • Preparing and affixing labels, stocking prescriptions medications and retrieving those medications from inventory locations.
  • Operating technology used for medication dispensing (TALYST Carousel, PYXIS Automated Dispensing Cabinets)
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, in accordance with State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
