Youth Apprentice (Architect Apprentice)
About The Position
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) investigates deaths within New York City that are criminal, accidental, suicidal, sudden, unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility, or suspicious/unusual. OCME's core purpose is to protect public health and serve impartial justice through forensic science and medicine, providing answers to support families and communities. OCME offers a selected student valuable experience in architecture and project management within a public service context. The apprentice will gain hands-on technical experience through field assignments or office work, and a mentoring relationship with senior technical staff. Through site visits and on-the-job training, the apprentice will learn about technical research, technical review, architectural records management, and project management for buildings under OCME's jurisdiction.
Requirements
- Authorization to work in the United States is required.
- Fulfillment of all minimum requirements for age prescribed by the New York State Department of Labor for Registered Apprenticeships.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing architectural plans prepared by consultants and/or in-house staff for accuracy
- Developing and preparing scope of work descriptions for new project needs
- Job site walkthroughs
- Technical research on regulations governing the built environment
- Architectural documentation, records procurement, and follow-up
- Attending agency meetings
- Assisting in the preparation of reports, memos, project scopes of work, design sketches, and technical specifications
