About The Position

This position serves as the family engagement authority regarding services provided across the DYS continuum including program and policy development and problem solving when conflicts arise. This position is instrumental in youth and families having a voice in Division wide change initiatives and DYS policies and procedures. This position allows for the youth and families to work with a Division employee that is outside of a facility and provide support at pivotal times in the youth’s detainment/commitment. The position supports DYS staff with developing new avenues of inclusion of families and providing opportunities for professional development for staff in understanding the youth and families we serve. This position works to establish working relationships with families involved with the Division as well as collaborating with CDHS agency partners to best serve our youth and families.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position OR A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to seven (7) years
  • Full Background CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Current/Valid and non-restricted CO Driver’s License
  • This position requires travel to state-wide regional offices as well as attending meetings at different locations.
  • This position will require the ability to be physically present at the various region locations across the state to meet regional needs.
  • This position will have access to vehicles at the Central Office and will need to have the ability to travel throughout the work week
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the DYS Pre-service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO), and mandatory annual training in all subject areas.
  • The Diana Screen®, a sexual risk screening tool, is administered to all applicants to the Division of Youth Services (DYS) seeking positions of trust with children and teens to help ensure that ethical boundaries between children and adults are maintained.

  • The results of the Diana Screen will be provided to the Division of Youth Services and may be used as part of the Division's decision on whether I am selected.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Implement the risk, needs and responsivity approach as related to youth and family services.
  • Designing/monitoring case management tools and forms.
  • Provide guidance to Juvenile justice processes required for Aggravated Juvenile Offenders (AJO), Violent Offenders, and Offense Specific youth.
  • Involvement with family support systems and representatives
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Ongoing family engagement.
  • Recruitment and connection with community providers & other state agencies involved with youth and families
  • Laws and rules related to the ongoing provision of the Children’s Code and DYS policies.
  • Youth Rights and Responsibilities Policy related to family engagement, involvement, and/or visitation
  • This position is a leadership role and a representative of the Central Office when participating, supporting or leading the committees and/or workgroups affiliated with family engagement across the DYS continuum.
  • This position is responsible for conveying the decisions made to the Regional Services Administrator as well as Regional Leadership Team.
  • This position facilitates the next steps and additional addendums to decisions for both DYS and families.
  • This position is a pivotal decision maker in how internal committees proceed with statewide initiative changes focused around youth and family engagement within the DYS continuum.
  • This role is involved with several external committees that partner with DYS or are within CDHS.
  • This position is versed in DYS procedures and practices in order to best articulate DYS to external partners.
  • This position knows both the detained and commitment sides of youth facilities.
  • Participation in community forums to keep the public informed of regionally based programs and services
  • Provides support with families that contract with DYS to assist other families involved with DYS.
  • Represents DYS on external and internal committees specific to family engagement and involvement.
  • Provide DYS representation when working with external agencies and other CDHS partnering divisions
  • Work within regions and youth centers with youth and families to prepare for returning to the community.
  • Collaborate with the transition specialists within the youth centers to support the youth and family
  • Coordinate, develop and oversee the implementation of consistent youth and family centered practices the Division’s transition processes statewide.
  • Collaborate with the family representatives involved with the Family Advisory Council and Family Support Groups.
  • Support families in understanding the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) process and support within the meetings.
  • In this position, the person is responsible to facilitate the Family Engagement committee that is a combination of DYS professionals, CDHS representation and family members.
  • This position works closely with the Regional Services Administrator in order to develop an understanding of DYS and CYDC initiatives and procedures.
  • The position will have a good understanding of the Children’s Code as well as DYS policy to support families' understanding of the juvenile justice system.
  • The position will shadow and become familiar with interactions CDYC and DYS staff have with families involved with the juvenile justice system.
  • The position develops trust with families and seeks out engagement and feedback from the families involved with Family Support Groups and Family Advisory Councils.
  • Implement change management principles around youth and family support within DYS youth centers, regions and CYDC.
  • Takes a leadership role in collaborating with regional and youth center representatives to lead change initiatives.
  • Assist in creating curriculum for DYS staff with family engagement
  • Provides coaching and guidance to champions during change implementation.
  • Provides on-site support to youth and families staff during change initiatives.
  • Analyze, review, consolidate and streamline Division policy specific to youth and family engagement
  • Develop an organized approach to reaching out with DYS updates and supporting families of both detained and committed youth.
  • Maintain an understanding of the CYDC side of case management and DYS side of client management.
  • Other duties that may arise during the course of day-to-day operations.
  • Support transition services provided in youth centers to prepare youth and families for re-integration to the community.
  • Provide Support to families in parole hearings
  • Maintain Parole Radios and Colorado State Patrol contrac
