About The Position

The YMCA of the National Capital Region is seeking a Youth Advisor for their Newcomer Youth Leadership Development Program. This part-time contract position, ending March 31, 2027, is an existing vacancy. Requirements

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field
  • Fluent in English, oral and written is essential
  • Experience in providing coaching and mentorship
  • Experience working with Youth, especially in a recreation/sport setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and build rapport with diverse clients
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills particularly as it relates to Youth and Newcomers to Canada
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS suite
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, or procedures that are clear, well documented, and that generally involve several different steps to achieve a given outcome
  • High level of interpersonal oral and written communication skills
  • Superior problem-solving and creative skills
  • Ability to create a strong presence and provide a welcoming environment
  • Ability to work with clients with diverse backgrounds and skill levels
  • Must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children & Youth, and submit the certificate of completion.

  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR “C” certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provide orientation information and consultation to youth participants.
  • Facilitate training workshops for participants.
  • Provide mentorship to youth participants.
  • Organize sport group activities for the youth.
  • Support the Director in organizing and facilitating the advisory committee with relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop course materials, resources, and curriculum.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Ensure excellent customer service is provided to participants through coaching, mentorship, and general program delivery.
  • Engage participants who are having difficulty acquiring certain skills or achieving a difficult goal.
  • Facilitate leadership and life skills training as requested.
  • Ensure quality of the Y experience for the youth participants.
  • Implement procedures for the operation of programs within the guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Provide one-on-one need assessment to the youth.
  • Organize weekly webinars and activity sessions with the youth in-person and online.
  • Provide support in marketing, outreach activities, and others.
  • Provide follow-up support to program participants.
