The Young Adult Peer Mentor (YAPM) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) component of the Community Behavioral Health Center. MCI provides crisis and behavioral health assessment, intervention, and stabilization services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Its mission is to respond rapidly, assess effectively, and provide treatment that promotes recovery, ensures safety, and stabilizes the crisis, enabling people to receive appropriate community services or, when medically necessary, inpatient or 24-hour diversionary care. The Young Adult Peer Mentor provides strength-based education, coaching, modeling, guidance, and support to youth and young adults from a peer perspective. The role draws on lived experience with behavioral health challenges during the mentor’s own youth and young adulthood to support individuals in a variety of settings, including community-based locations. When appropriate, the mentor shares relevant personal experiences to inspire hope, motivation, and engagement. The mentor also provides peer support and advocacy throughout crisis intervention and follow-up, tailoring the approach to each individual’s needs and goals, and works with the interdisciplinary team to support individuals in their recovery. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, either 11 a.m.–7 p.m. or 12 p.m.–8 p.m. The rate is $22.94 per hour, with an additional $1 per hour for CPS and an additional $2 per hour for CARC.
