The Young Adult Peer Mentor (YAPM) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) team within the Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC). MCI provides crisis and behavioral health assessment, intervention, and stabilization services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round, for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. Its mission is to respond rapidly, assess effectively, and provide treatment that promotes recovery, ensures safety, and stabilizes the crisis so individuals can receive appropriate community services or, when medically necessary, inpatient or 24-hour diversionary care. The YAPM provides strength-based education, coaching, modeling, guidance, and support to youth and young adults from a peer perspective. Drawing on lived experience with behavioral health challenges during youth and young adulthood, the mentor supports individuals in a variety of settings, including community-based locations. The position shares relevant personal experience when appropriate to inspire hope, motivation, and engagement, and provides peer support and advocacy through crisis intervention and follow-up. The mentor coordinates with the interdisciplinary team and uses recovery experience to serve as a positive model and support individuals in their own recovery. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position working Tuesday through Saturday, either 11 a.m.–7 p.m. or 12 p.m.–8 p.m. The rate is $22.94 per hour, with an additional $1 for CPS and an additional $2 for CARC.
