About The Position

The Yard Technician maintains yard cleanliness and organizes rental equipment to minimize customer wait times. The position assists customers with equipment check-in and check-out and provides basic equipment operation guidance. Work includes preparing equipment for rental, fueling and recording equipment information, staging equipment for deliveries, maintaining yard safety and organization, and making small deliveries or pickups when requested. The role is primarily based at construction sites, equipment yards, and on transportation routes, with regular exposure to heavy machinery and diesel-powered equipment. Work frequently takes place outdoors in varying weather and may involve uneven terrain, dust, mud, and noise, as well as shop-based tasks and fieldwork. Employees must use required PPE and follow safety protocols. Job-site conditions and priorities may change quickly. The position requires substantial physical stamina and mobility, including frequent handling of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, prolonged standing and walking, climbing, working at heights, and manual handling of controls and tie-downs. A valid state-issued driver’s license is required. Successful candidates must complete a background check and drug screening.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Good organizational and communication skills.
Customer-service orientation.
Valid state-issued driver’s license.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and on uneven terrain, and around heavy equipment, potentially in confined spaces or at elevated positions.
Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and remain alert in potentially hazardous driving and yard conditions.
Successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Clean equipment with a power washer to prepare it for rent.
Wear proper PPE while working in the yard.
Assist with loading and unloading equipment.
Provide customers with basic equipment training as needed.
Fuel and meter equipment upon check-in.
Record fuel logs and other information.
Stage equipment for deliveries.
Maintain proper yard organization.
Maintain yard cleanliness and safety, including sweeping, mopping, and collecting garbage.
Ensure rental equipment is properly tagged and has the required key.
Make small deliveries or pickups to client sites or retailers using a pickup truck when requested.
