About The Position

The Yard Supervisor will supervise the Yard Crewmembers and assist customers in the lumberyard, operate a forklift, stock products, and provide general store support. This role involves training and mentoring new team members, coordinating daily workflow, and assisting management with employee concerns. Key duties include greeting customers, assigning tasks, loading and unloading products, responding to customer inquiries, resolving complaints, moving and stocking materials, managing yard inventory, performing safety checks on forklifts, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the yard and warehouses, verifying merchandise, covering exposed materials, cutting lumber, operating a forklift, and attending store meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Ability to carry out a series of instructions without constant supervision.
  • Able to remain professional and courteous at all times.
  • Knowledge of weight distribution and loading patterns.
  • The ability to adjust the controls of a machine or vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
  • Must successfully complete all company training and certification requirements regarding equipment usage, including obtaining McCoy’s forklift certification.
  • Forklift operator certification.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training, including completing supervisor training within 6 months of entering the role; completing levels 1 and 2 of the positional training offered.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and mentors new team members or assists management with this process.
  • Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of team members within the yard.
  • Assists management with addressing employee concerns and conflicts.
  • Greets customers as they enter the yard.
  • Assigns job tasks to yard and delivery employees according to receiving and delivery schedules and customer traffic.
  • Loads and unloads products into customers, vendors, and company vehicles safely and accurately.
  • Responds to customer’s questions regarding products.
  • Resolves customer complaints or requests in a timely manner; escalating to management when required.
  • Moves, stocks, and rearranges building materials in the yard, warehouse, and interior of the store.
  • Oversees yard inventory and notifies the Inventory Coordinator or management when inventory needs to be adjusted.
  • Performs routine safety checks on forklifts according to company guidelines.
  • Organizes and maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the lumberyard and warehouses, by stacking products squarely, and picking up bands, chocks, and trash.
  • Verifies customer or vendor ticket matches the merchandise that is being loaded.
  • Covers exposed materials, when required, to prevent weather damage.
  • Cuts lumber and other related materials as requested by the customer.
  • Operates a forklift.
  • Attends all store meetings and training sessions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
