About The Position

Tibbetts Lumber Co. LLC, a Lumber and Building materials employer is seeking a full-time Yard Supervisor. This role involves leading and directing employees, overseeing the loading and unloading of materials, ensuring equipment maintenance, and assisting customers. The position requires a strong understanding of yard operations, equipment handling, and safety procedures. The supervisor will also be responsible for training new employees and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the yard.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of yard and product activities on location including component or materials’ weights and methods of loading.
  • Advanced knowledge of operation and handling of all machinery and equipment used in the yard; maintains certification to operate such if required.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate work processes to maintain and increase manpower and equipment efficiency.
  • Ability to read and write work schedules and reports.
  • Knowledge of basic math, counting, and estimating.
  • Customer Service orientation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • 5 years of yard operations experience or equivalent education.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid Class A CDL driver’s license is preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual is a plus in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and directs employees including assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work progress and accuracy, providing guidance, addressing escalated issues, and training less experienced team members.
  • May provide input on the performance of assigned employees to management.
  • Loads, unloads, and moves materials on the premises, utilizing material handling equipment and machinery.
  • Receives yard materials, and instructs yard workers in receiving and storage procedures.
  • Ensures that employees receive proper training and certification, if necessary, to operate equipment and machinery used in the yard.
  • Ensures that equipment is serviced on schedule and maintained effectively.
  • Inspects loading operation for outgoing to delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, and safety regulations.
  • Prepares bills of lading and packing slips.
  • Provides on-the-job training to outside or new yard employees including product knowledge of items stored in the yard and warehouse, housekeeping and safety procedures.
  • Performs the same duties as other yard personnel on occasion.
  • Ensures that outside areas are kept neat and clean and scraps and yard debris are appropriately recycled or disposed of.
  • Reports safety hazards and handles remedial action.
  • Assists customers in loading and load building.
  • Provides delivery status information, inventory availability, and answers related questions.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers.
  • Attends periodic safety meetings as required, and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
