About The Position

The Yard Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of designated hourly union positions and coordinating work within the area of responsibility with company resources and contractors. Also, must be available to fill in for production shift supervisor as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of three years working in heavy industry required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Must be able to successfully interact and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Computer skills, proficient in Microsoft applications and an HRIS/timekeeping system.
  • Able to physically inspect plant properties where climbing steps and ladders, observing at heights, and traversing uneven work surfaces is required.
  • Able to wear all required MSHA personal protective equipment.
  • Proper wear and use of respirator, when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of cement manufacturing equipment and operations, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer safety in the designated production department. Exhibit knowledge of and ensure compliance with all safety regulations. Independently identify and correct safety hazards; counsel and discipline associates for non-compliance with safety rules. Conduct or ensure that regular safety training, safety topic meetings and task training are being completed as directed by Safety Director. Perform area inspections and accident investigations as required. Cooperate with all external inspectors as necessary.
  • Provide strong leadership to hourly union workforce consisting of, but not limited to, laborers, janitor, and panel truck driver. Support, motivate, and coach the workforce to keep an efficient productive shift operating.
  • Assign hourly union employees work and review and approve hours worked in appropriate job categories on timecards.
  • Identify training needs and provide training and development opportunities to employees. Coordinate training of laborers in other job classifications in accordance with the labor contract to fill needs in other production areas.
  • Plan and coordinate contractors, as needed, for additional labor support, building care, landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, and snow removal. Oversee work of contractors for painting, office upgrades, and outside facility care. Complete necessary requisitions, review invoices for accuracy and ensure appropriate levels of approval.
  • Serve as a back up to Production Shift Supervisors on 24/7 shift rotation, filling in when needed.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the environmental department as required. Maintain flow of required environmental reports.
  • Effectively administer and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the collective bargaining agreement, Keystone’s Code of Conduct, Company Policies and Procedures, and all safety and environmental procedures. Discipline, when needed, in accordance with the appropriate disciplinary schedule or rule violation.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, probationary reviews, and provide feedback to coach and mentor an employee for improved performance.
  • Maintain working proficiency with the appropriate systems for purchasing, production, maintenance, and human resources to effectively perform this position.
