We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Yard Jockey to join our team. This role is responsible for the safe movement and staging of trailers on company property, as well as supporting the coordination of cold storage and transportation activities. The ideal candidate is organized, communicates effectively, and prioritizes safety in all tasks. Responsibilities

  • Safely move and stage trailers on-site, following all vehicle and powered industrial truck safety procedures
  • Accurately set temperatures for refrigerated trailers during loading and unloading
  • Communicate trailer status and cold storage details with Order Assembly, Transportation, and Quality Assurance teams
  • Prioritize trailer staging at loading docks and throughout the yard based on operational needs
  • Track and manage trailer inventory, including loaded, empty, dry, and refrigerated units
  • Conduct daily yard checks and report trailer status to the Supervisor
  • Identify trailers in need of inspection or repair and relay details to Garage and Transportation teams
  • Use a handheld radio to communicate with plant personnel, operations, and management
  • Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and provide daily activity updates to management
  • Meet performance goals such as trailer moves per hour and on-time departures
  • Ensure trailer staging aligns with the site plan; suggest adjustments based on trailer pool fluctuations
  • Assist with training new hires and contribute to a positive, productive work environment
  • Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and documentation for assigned tractor
  • Support route drivers with trailer retrieval as needed
