About The Position

The Yard Jockey is responsible for moving trailers around the warehouse yard and preparing them for unloading and loading. This role involves the timely movement and spotting of trailers to facilitate warehouse operations in sorting and processing material for shipment or storage. The position requires maintaining an orderly storage lot to maximize efficiency and operating a yard truck safely at speeds under 15 mph within the facility. The Yard Jockey must also conduct pre-trip inspections on trailers before placing them in doors, interact daily with facility personnel, and comply with all safety requirements. Communication with dispatch will be via cellular telephone or 2-way radio. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Safe truck and trailer operating skills.
  • Experience with backing 53-foot trailers.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • CDL license preferred but not required.
  • Ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic.
  • Must be innovative, confident and energetic.
  • Detail oriented; practices good judgment in decision making.
  • Knowledge of professional social media platforms.
  • Self-motivated; ability to operate under solid pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Expert capabilities in programs including but not limited to: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Movement and spotting of trailers to facilitate warehouse operations in sorting and processing material for shipment or storage.

  • Maintain a neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the facility’s needs.
  • Operate yard truck in a safe manner.
  • Drive and operate vehicle under 15 mph in and around facility.
  • Conduct pre-trips on trailers before placing in doors.
  • Function and interact on a daily basis with facility personnel and comply with facility safety requirements.
  • Communicate using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch.
