About The Position

Scotts Miracle-Gro is hiring a Yard Jockey (CDL) for its team in Riverside, California. This hourly position typically starts at $28.85 per hour, follows the Scotts step pay progression scale, and is paid weekly. Actual pay may depend on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.

The Yard Jockey moves drop trailers to and from dock doors according to shipping and receiving instructions, protects the integrity of inbound and outbound trailer inventory, and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work area. The role involves using a yard tractor in a compact yard, completing safety inspections and daily yard checks, and may include warehouse work such as forklift operation. The employee is expected to follow corporate values and applicable safety and trade organization requirements.

Requirements

• Ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
• Ability to lift 55 pounds or more.
• Ability to work overtime and some weekend hours during peak season.
• Ability to safely maneuver a tractor-trailer combination vehicle in a compact yard area.
• Customer service focus.

Responsibilities

• Move drop trailers in and out of dock door locations in accordance with shipping and receiving instructions.
• Perform duties consistently with the corporation’s values and mission.
• Maintain a clean, neat, orderly, and safe work area.
• Conduct operations in accordance with OSHA, MSDS, and trade organization requirements.
• Provide excellent customer service by ensuring inbound and outbound trailer inventory integrity while minimizing errors.
• Perform and document pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections.
• Complete a daily yard check.
• Ensure trailers are segregated according to internal processes.
• Lift and open trailer doors.
• Frequently bend to place and remove wheel chocks.
• Safely enter and exit the yard tractor numerous times per shift.
• Safely maneuver equipment using good backing skills.
• Assist with warehouse responsibilities as needed, including forklift operation.
