About The Position

The Yard Jockey operates a diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination to move trailers between loading docks and the yard for loading and unloading. Experience is helpful, but the employer will train an individual with a good driving record. A motor vehicle record may be pulled for verification. The position requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have a good driving record; a motor vehicle record may be pulled for verification.
• Ability to speak English and read and interpret safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Understanding of the company’s philosophy and values.
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Responsibilities

• Pull trailers away from loading docks to be staged in the yard.
• Back trailers to loading docks.
• Perform safety checks on yard equipment and trailers.
• Monitor the operation and temperature of refrigerated equipment in the yard.
• Adjust temperature set points on refrigeration units and report shutdown codes to a supervisor.
• Open and close trailer doors and secure trailers with locks or seals.
• Maintain radio contact with shipping personnel to receive instructions about when and where to move trailers or other company equipment, such as straight trucks.
• Maintain a log of yard moves for the shift.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
