About The Position

The Yard Jockey - CDL operates diesel-powered tractor-trailer combinations, moving trailers to and from loading docks, to and from the yard, and/or to and from plants for loading and unloading. A 3rd shift is available. This role requires the ability to perform pre and post-trip inspections, lift up to 60 lbs, and work over 11 hours per day. The position also involves becoming certified to operate a forklift, loading and unloading mods/stacks, following instructions, being flexible, and working within a team. The Yard Jockey must be able to determine next steps during plant downtime, report vehicle issues and accidents immediately, and maintain a neat appearance of the vehicle. Responsibilities include prepping live trailers for unloading and reloading, moving loaded and empty live trailers, staging empty live trailers for reloading, transferring tankers, and weighing tankers. Willingness to work at all plant locations and accept schedule changes is required.

  • Must be willing to become certified to operate a forklift.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, be very flexible and work within a team environment.
  • Ability to determine next step processes when plant situations occur. IE: downtime.
  • Ability to speak English, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Operate diesel-powered tractor-trailer combinations to move trailers to and from loading docks, yard, and plants.
  • Perform pre and post-trip equipment inspections.
  • Load and unload mods/stacks utilizing a forklift as required.
  • Determine next step processes when plant situations occur, such as downtime.
  • Report major vehicle problems immediately to the Garage Manager/Foreman.
  • Report any accidents immediately to the Safety Manager.
  • Maintain vehicle(s) in a neat appearance, inside and outside.
  • Prep live trailers for unloading and reloading (e.g., curtains, barndoors, roof, straps).
  • Move loaded live trailers from designated areas to Live Receiving for processing.
  • Move empty live trailers from Live Receiving to the yard.
  • Stage empty live trailers for reloading.
  • Prep live trailers after reloading with empty mods/stacks.
  • Transfer tankers from the yard to the plant and plant to the yard as required.
  • Weigh tankers empty and loaded as required.
