About The Position

Ryder is hiring a CDL A Yard Hostler Truck Driver in Bloomfield, Connecticut. This local, home-daily position primarily involves safely handling and maneuvering tractor trailers on the yard and on nearby public roads. The role uses an Ottawa tractor and a 53-foot reefer trailer, with no-touch freight. Drivers must have strong backing skills; yard experience is a plus. The position can accommodate an automatic restriction.

Pay is $25.75 per hour, with 42 hours per week and weekly pay of $1,107.25 or more. Paid training is provided. The schedule is Wednesday 4 p.m.–10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 4 p.m.–4 a.m. Ryder states that its drivers operate well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling available at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Have strong backing skills.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver tractor trailers on the yard and within an area on public roads.
• Comply with safety and DOT regulations, participate in continuous training, and provide customer service.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Maintain accurate move and yard inventory records.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
