About The Position

The Fleet Yard Helper primary responsibilities include ensuring mini school buses leave the yard in a prearranged pattern, with earlier routes exiting first. This role involves checking that drivers complete their pre-trip inspections and DVIRs. During winter months, the fleet should be started earlier, and buses returning in the evening must have a full or near-full gas tank. The individual will report and follow up on safety concerns and will be responsible for maintaining the organization of the yard. This role requires a willingness to adapt to changes as the company moves towards a better structure. With the assistance of the Fleet department, designated areas will be created for "out of service vehicles" and other categories. The yard worker will also be responsible for ensuring bus keys are sorted and safely kept, with keys remaining at Dispatch when buses are not in use. A uniform and identifiable gear, including a reflective vest and steel-toe shoes, must be worn. This individual must maintain proper communication and professionalism at all times, as they will interact with bus drivers and attendants, and will work closely with the Fleet and Shop departments.
