About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating trailer and tanker traffic in the receiving yard and maintaining a log of product loads while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures. The Yard Driver will move correct trailers from the yard to the door and door to the yard, set reefer units at appropriate settings, check to see if reefer units will start, communicate with drivers and dispatchers, chock trailers, and report any fuel or oil leaks to maintenance. The role also involves performing pre-inspections for safety and mechanical defects on the shuttle truck at the beginning of each shift and conducting lot checks as requested by management. The position requires the ability to work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions for 12 hours per day, with repetitive bending, twisting, and turning. The driver will continually climb in and out of the truck cab and walk extensively throughout the shift.

Requirements

  • Must have a current valid State driver’s license.
  • Must pass Tyson Yard/Lot Driver Assessment.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to shovel.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders up to 60 feet.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, and reach.
  • Must be able to work in extreme hot, cold, inclement weather, and odors.
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools and perform basic mechanical and maintenance functions.
  • Must be able to read to complete required logs.
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisor and co-workers via two-way radio.
  • Must be willing to tolerate extreme cold and extreme heat (12 hours per day).
  • Must be willing to bend at waist and knees on a repetitive basis (12 hours per day).
  • Must be willing to twist and turn (12 hours per day).
  • Must be willing to climb in and out of truck cab on a continual basis (12 hours per day).
  • Must be willing to walk a great deal (12 hours per day).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last 12 months.
  • Must have 6 months of experience of tractor-trailer driving within the last 2 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.

Responsibilities

  • Operate yard truck in a safe manner at all times by following all safety procedures.
  • Maintain clean work area by use of soap and high-pressure hose.
  • Perform various positions as required/assigned.
  • Receive training as required.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • May be required to operate front-end loader, man lift, or forklift and will be required to obtain certification to do so.
