About The Position

To operate a semi-truck and trailer combination as well as operate a forklift safely and efficiently to move raw and/or finished product. This role participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies. The Yard Driver is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understands their role in supporting these systems. This position description is intended to guide activities and is not intended to limit creativity or describe all required work.

Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain company-issued forklift licenses.
Ability to follow established safety regulations.
Some tractor/trailer operation experience required.

Nice To Haves

Ability to work in a wet, noisy, humid, hot, and cold environment that has an unpleasant odor.
Ability to hook and unhook trailers, including climbing on trucks to hook up hoses or lines, hand cranking trailer dollies, tarp and un-tarp trailers with a hank crank up to 30 trailers a shift if necessary.

Responsibilities

Operate a semi-truck and end dump, hopper bottom, tanker, or box trailer efficiently to move product to various locations within Simmons facility properties and outside of Simmons properties.
Perform day runs to various facilities over the road.
Wash semi-truck and trailer in wash bay as needed.
Load and unload trailers using a forklift to move product to the production floor.
Complete all necessary paperwork.
Participate in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members.
Attend appropriate team meetings.
Foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues (e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes).
Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
Actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization and reinforce actions needed.
Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
