About The Position

Yard Drivers perform all the same work as Yard Crew Members, including assisting customers with equipment rentals, ensuring equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, sanitized, and safe for use. Yard Crew Members are the first point of contact for customers renting equipment, providing customer support, maintaining yard cleanliness, and performing various tasks to facilitate rental operations. Additionally, Yard Drivers are responsible for picking up or delivering equipment to other stores, customers, or repair shops as directed by their manager and the Dispatch department. Maintaining a clean driving record and ensuring utmost safety while driving company vehicles off-site are crucial aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma / GED.
  • Required to have and maintain a California Driver’s license.
  • 1+ years of warehouse, delivery, or routing experience.
  • 1+ year of operations management or related experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize efficiently.
  • Able to communicate and interact in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of equipment rental operations. Experience using and loading the equipment rented and sold by the Company.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry a minimum of 50lbs safely.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three- syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the Company.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to access and send email, communicate over the telephone.
  • Use software interfaces such as: Point-of-Rental (Dispatch, sales & rental system), Google Drive, Microsoft Office, TSO GPS, ADP WorkforceNow.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to process and analyze vague, abstract verbal and written instructions.

  • More than 2/3 of time spent standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms. Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Responsibilities

  • Assigned by their manager via the dispatch department pick up or deliver equipment to other stores, customers, and or the repair shop.
  • Greets customers as they arrive and assess customer needs to get started receiving equipment or sending out rental equipment.
  • Ensures all rental equipment is in good, useable condition before it goes out to the customer.
  • Oils and lubricates all tools, equipment and tilt-up braces according to specifications before they go out for delivery.
  • Prepares and stages rental orders to go out for delivery.
  • Inspects all rental equipment for damage when it comes back from a customer; Reports any damage according to established procedure.
  • Cleans rental area and equipment on a regular basis.
  • Removes dirt, concrete, or other debris from rental equipment.
  • Work as a team with other yard personnel.
  • Write legibly on all correspondence.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of work area and all areas related to A Tool Shed premises and business.
  • Load and unload equipment such as forklifts, boom lifts, and backhoes.
  • Know specifications and application of rental inventory.
  • Inspect cargo to ensure it is properly loaded and secured.
  • Record service or repair activities.
  • Secure/load equipment on vehicles.
  • Instruct customers on equipment and safe operation.
  • Start equipment for customers.
  • Other related tasks as assigned
