Yard Driver (U) - 3rd Shift
About The Position
The Yard Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within Voyant property to support shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations. This role ensures timely positioning ("spotting") of trailers at docks, adheres to safety and compliance standards, and may provide support to warehouse operations as needed. The Yard Driver plays a critical role in maintaining an organized and efficient yard environment and reports directly to the Warehouse Manager and/or Warehouse Supervisor. This position requires a valid driver's license and strict adherence to company safety and conduct protocols.
Requirements
- Valid state-issued driver’s license (Required)
Nice To Haves
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) (Preferred)
- less than 1 year in a yard driver or similar position (Preferred)
- less than 1 year familiarity with warehouse and trailer operations (Preferred)
- less than 1 year prior experience operating yard tractors or spotting equipment (Preferred)
- Safe operation of yard tractor and trailer handling (High proficiency)
- Knowledge of warehouse safety standards (on-property) (High proficiency)
- Awareness of trailer placement and dock operations (High proficiency)
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment (High proficiency)
- Ability to identify and report mechanical or safety issues (Medium proficiency)
- Clear verbal communication and reporting skills (Medium proficiency)
- Familiarity with yard or warehouse documentation practices (Medium proficiency)
- Basic loading and unloading procedures (Low proficiency)
Responsibilities
- Safely move and “spot” drop trailers, including shuttle and carrier trailers, to designated docks for shipping or receiving.
- Operate yard tractor to reposition trailers around the property without leaving Voyant premises.
- Perform routine trailer inspections and immediately report any unsafe or non-compliant conditions to a supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, including Standard Operating, Procedure Driver Code of Conduct and recordkeeping requirements.
- Support yard organization and help maintain clear trailer placement and dock access.
- Perform basic yard housekeeping to ensure safe and accessible areas around trailer lots.
- Assist with inventory movements, yard audits, and documentation as needed.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and communicate any delays, hazards, or incidents promptly.
- Participate in safety meetings or required training sessions.
- May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.
