About The Position

Ya-A-Te student staff serve as student leaders who serve as guides, mentors, and positive role models during a three-day off-campus retreat designed for incoming and returning students. Ya-A-Te student staff plays a critical role in facilitating small group activities, encouraging student engagement, and helping students transition to college life. This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Must be a current student or recent graduate of TJC in good academic and conduct standing
  • Must be available for all training and retreat dates
  • Possess written, verbal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate peers in group settings
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate discussions and team-building activities with a group of 10–20 students.
  • Serve as a mentor and peer resource, offering encouragement and guidance to students throughout the retreat.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes connection, involvement, and school spirit.
  • Serve as a coach during tribal games and lead a team of 30 – 50 students.
  • Assist with coordination of large- and small-group programming, games, and other retreat activities.
  • Adhere to safety and emergency guidelines while maintaining professionalism and a safe environment for attendees.
  • Work closely with other student leaders, professional staff, and campus partners to ensure a smooth and impactful retreat experience.
  • Demonstrate positive behavior, responsibility, and enthusiasm at all times.
  • Attend all required training sessions in preparation for the retreat.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Life staff.
