About The Position

The Radiology Technician performs diagnostic radiographic procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered. This role is part of the VIS Clinical OHO team at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Responsibilities

  • Performs appropriate volume of procedures according to patient load.
  • Ensures that the patient information is correct prior to the study.
  • Ensures that the proper technical factors are selected prior to image exposure.
  • Ensures that the images are properly marked prior to image exposure.
  • Ensures that the images are correctly identified prior to image processing.
  • Ensures that the images are delivered to viewing areas, film file room, or PACS system in a timely fashion.
  • Completes appropriate patient documentation.
  • Accepts assignments from supervisor in a positive manner; recognizes and performs duties that need to be accomplished although not routine.
  • Restocks and maintains assigned work area/equipment in an orderly fashion and ensures that emergency kit is accurately supplied and dated.
  • Performs necessary cleaning of room and equipment.
  • Performs routine cleaning of the exterior of cassettes.
  • Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds and radiographic imaging tables.
  • Uses appropriate restraint devices as needed.
  • Reviews exposed radiographs for proper positioning, techniques, and labeling (patient identification, date, and markers).
  • Participates in all quality control and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills as well as complete working knowledge of radiographic equipment within assigned area.
  • Completes patient exam in RIS.
  • Reviews materials and exam charges, edits/corrects as necessary.
  • Performs quality assurance procedures.
  • Provides clear and concise information regarding mechanical problems and service needs.
  • Records all equipment downtimes in department log and notifies appropriate personnel according to department procedures.
  • Wears and maintains dosimeter badge in a proper fashion.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance to radiation safety practices.
  • Assists in scheduling of routine and emergency exams.
  • Handles calls with courtesy and efficiency.
  • Communicates identified patient-related problems using the appropriate chain of command.
  • Displays flexibility, volunteers to work odd shifts as workload demands.
  • Demonstrates capability of explaining procedures to patient, considers patient’s comfort during procedure, understands emotional response when procedure is completed.
  • Demonstrates respect for patient’s right to privacy, all matters handled in a confidential manner.
  • Abides by professional code of ethics.
  • Provides verbal education regarding procedure performed that is appropriate for age and level of learning to the patient/significant other.
  • Completes incident forms and risk management forms in a timely manner.
  • Completes patient education forms and discharge forms in a timely manner.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and demonstrates a teamwork effort.
