About The Position

The Washington Youth ChalleNGe Academy (WYCA) is seeking a dedicated individual to join their team as a Youth Academy Counseling & Coordination Specialist 1, also known as the WYCA Post Residential Case Manager. This role is crucial in helping at-risk youth get their lives back on track by working in a diverse, inclusive, and team-oriented environment. The position operates under the supervision of the Program Manager (Case Management Supervisor) and focuses on teaching and coaching Cadets in goal setting and action planning. A key responsibility is promoting positive post-residential placements for program graduates and meticulously tracking their activities and outcomes during the 24-month post-residential phase. Proficiency in Spanish is desired but not required. This position is also eligible for on-site, 24/7 facility premium pay of 5%. The WYCA is a voluntary program that includes a 22-week residential academy followed by a 24-month post-residential phase, aiming to provide a highly disciplined, safe, and professional learning environment that empowers at-risk youth to improve their educational levels and become responsible, productive Washingtonians.

Requirements

• An Associate’s or higher-level degree; OR Experience in casework, counseling, social services, teaching, marketing, public relations, human resource management, planning, directing and/or facilitating youth work activities; or experience in a related field will substitute for education on a year for year basis.
• Good judgment in communications and actions, cognizant always of how words or deeds can affect youth development, parental and community relations, and program integrity and reputation.
• Develop and deliver presentations/training about the WYCA to applicants, community partners, and diverse audiences.
• Coordinate with others inside or outside the organization to share information, make decisions, arrange for services or other assistance, and/or implement solutions to issues or complaints, assist others and/or resolve problems or conflicts.
• Listen attentively, identify issues, practice a high level of organizational skills, strong time management, attention to detail in accurate and monthly data entry and reporting requirements.
• Extract and compile data to prepare narrative, statistical or other reports for review, analysis, documentation, etc.
• Actively demonstrate a commitment to learning and growth and contribute to continuous improvement of agency processes.
• Demonstrate a willingness to take action to understand and meet the needs of others.
• Must possess a license valid to drive in the State of Washington.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in Spanish is desired but not required.
• Six months of case management experience.
• Six months of youth-work experience (where primary function of the job was working directly with youth/teens).

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and manage an assigned caseload of youth at the WYCA and track the placement of program graduates during the 24-month Post-Residential Phase.
• Maintain monthly contact with each Cadet on the assigned caseload during the 24-month Post-Residential Phase.
• Collect, store, and record monthly source documentation of each Cadet’s placement activity, ensuring completeness, thoroughness, and organization.
• Enter all assigned Cadet contact, placement, and other required information into the WYCA database in compliance with pre-determined timelines.
• Deliver small and large group instruction on goal setting, action plan development, personal values exploration, and other life skills based on established curriculum.
• Provide ongoing support to Cadets to strengthen life skills during the post residential phase.
