CLASS DEFINITION A Wastewater Tech Supervisor I Sanitary supervises and participates in the operation of mechanical and electrical equipment at a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. Work of this class involves supervising wastewater operation technicians. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift with evening, night, weekend, holiday and callback hours as required or held over until properly relieved or for emergencies. Work is performed in a wastewater treatment plant where there is regular exposure to toxic chemicals, pathogenic bacteria, noxious odors and extremes of weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
Four years of experience in the operation, maintenance and minor repair of equipment in a wastewater treatment plant.
A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.
Must hold and maintain a valid State of Maryland Permanent Operator's Certificate Wastewater Class A and Class 5, issued by the Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators, throughout employment.
Must be able to wear respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus due to environmental issues.

Knowledge of wastewater processing procedures and the theories of wastewater treatment.
