About The Position

The City of Murphy Public Works Department seeks to add a Public Works Supervisor to its dynamic team! As our Public Works Supervisor, under direction of the Public Works Superintendent, you will oversee and coordinate operations and maintenance activities for the water, wastewater, streets, and stormwater divisions. You will schedule and supervise day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient resources utilization. You will also be required to evaluate performance and support professional development of all Public Works employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Five (5) years combined experience in street maintenance, repair or construction; water distribution and/or wastewater collection maintenance and/or repair; or experience with light to heavy construction equipment operation
  • Current Class “C” Water Distribution License as issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
  • Current Wastewater Collection II License as issued by TCEQ
  • Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License with a Tankers Endorsement
  • Driving record must be in compliance with City policy

  • May work extensive hours and must respond within forty-five (45) minutes to an on-call or emergency callback, as required

Responsibilities

  • Ensures daily tasks assigned are carried out by the crew s.
  • Assists Public Works Superintendent in planning, scheduling and implementing construction, maintenance and operation activities to provide quality water, wastewater, street and drainage services
  • Utilizes the city’s computerized maintenance management and work order system to track and log work performed on a daily basis
  • At times , performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects, including but not limited to pavement cutting, concrete repair, ditch digging, manhole and sewer line cleaning, main and service line repair, laying sod and backfilling open trenches.
  • Services water supply pumps, sewer lift stations pumps and dewatering trash pumps.
  • Responds to customer complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; sewer leaks, sewer backups, odors, etc.
  • Operates, repairs, and maintains various equipment and vehicles (such as tractors, mowers, front end loader and backhoe, skid steer loader, rollers, and other vehicles, etc.)
  • Performs handwork in field when needed
  • Loads and unloads trucks and equipment or materials
  • Patches pot holes
  • Cuts brush, mows high grass, weeds, and cleans around street intersections
  • Performs routine and daily maintenance tasks on assigned equipment to include fluid levels check, lubrication point check, tire pressure check, cleaning filters and screens, cleaning of wind shields, and general washing
  • Inspects equipment to ensure road worthiness by checking the operation and presence of all lights, horns, braking systems, wipers, road hazard equipment, securing loads and other items required by the Department of Transportation before allowing equipment onto public roads
  • Adheres to stand-by schedule as assigned for emergency repairs at night and weekends
  • Adheres to departmental, personnel, safety rules and regulations, as listed in the Personnel and Administrative Regulations Manual
  • Identifies hazards and liability exposure and immediately reports to Superintendent
  • Assists in training Maintenance Worker I's and II's to increase their skills in the safety, maintenance, construction and repair of water, wastewater and storm drainage systems.
  • Assists in locating gas, telephone, power, cable television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
  • Evaluate employee performance and assists in selecting new employees
  • Directs inquiries and concerns of the general public to the Superintendent
