About The Position

Under general direction, the WWTP Senior Mechanic performs a variety of journey-level work in the maintenance and operation of the City’s wastewater treatment plant to ensure the proper functioning of the plant facilities and equipment; maintains and upgrades plant mechanical equipment and buildings; performs a variety of preventative and corrective maintenance and project work; serves as plant operator and monitors equipment and process, makes proper adjustments to keep the process within the limits set forth by the DOE permit. Work assignments are received via work orders, email or written log and require the incumbent to understand, investigate and determine the appropriate procedures to follow to complete the work. Works independently with little or no direct supervision. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions and work standards. New hires generally start between $8,380.00 and $9,239.00 per month. Placement within the position’s full wage scale is based on qualifications and professional experience. The full wage scale for this position is between $8,380.00 and $10,186.00 per month.

Requirements

  • A High school School Diploma/GED Certificate and three years of experience in mechanical maintenance, repair and installation of equipment and instrumentation related to wastewater treatment, electrical or millwright coursework of formal training plus one year of operations experience; OR An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which allows the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may also be considered.
  • One year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in operating a secondary wastewater treatment plant.
  • A valid Driver's License at time of hire and a driving record that is acceptable to the City’s insurance requirements. Out of state candidates must obtain their WA State Driver's License within 30 days after moving to WA https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/moving.html
  • Washington State Wastewater Operator II certification.
  • Forklift Operators License within six months of date of hire.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood borne Pathogen Cards.
  • A criminal background check is required following a verbal offer of employment. Criminal history is not an automatic employment disqualifier. Results are reviewed on a case-by case basis.
  • This is a City identified non-DOT safety sensitive position.
  • A pre-employment drug screening will be required upon conditional job offer.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of custodial and grounds work; clean and maintain work areas and restroom facilities and perform related work as assigned.
  • Operates and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment; drive a vehicle to local vendors to pick up and deliver parts and equipment.
  • Performs a variety of journey-level work in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, replacement and equipment upgrades for a wide variety of mechanical equipment utilized in the operation of the City’s wastewater treatment plant
  • Inspects, adjusts, repairs and replaces mechanical equipment and related parts; troubleshoots equipment malfunctions; researches manufacturer records and specifications to determine proper performance and operation standards.
  • Independently performs routine preventive maintenance on plant equipment, greases equipment, checks and replaces belts, filters and other related accessories; may perform laser alignment and takes vibration readings on rotating equipment as necessary.
  • Operates a variety of specialty equipment to include; a welder, saws, rigging and lifting equipment, lathe and drill press.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and logs including: maintenance data, pump repair reports, vibration analysis reports, work orders, schedules and other related records and submits to appropriate personnel for review as required.
  • Performs Operator duties as assigned including: sampling, solids and liquid stream operation and process control adjustments required to maintain process within established parameters.
  • May be required to work various schedules, respond to emergencies, work alone for extended periods and be assigned to On-Call responsibilities.
