About The Position

This is a non-exempt utility position, with emphasis on electronic equipment and electrical controls maintenance and repair, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems with associated networks. Also performs skilled mechanical maintenance, and operational duties. Works under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, operations, equipment and principles, determined by certification or experience.
  • Services, installs, repairs, and maintains pumps, blowers, compressors, motors, plumbing, boilers, gas/chemical systems, hydraulics, centrifuges, pneumatics, polymer make-up systems, automated oil/grease lubrication systems, and electronics.
  • Electronic knowledge, such as that obtained from military or other technical (Associate level or equivalent) electronics training, supported by experience with controls, logic, sensors and computers in an industrial setting is essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret Ladder Logic, Electrical Schematics, and Electrical System Drawings.
  • Skills and ability to operate hand tools, heavy equipment and process equipment.
  • Ability to communicate, interface and work as a team with supervisors and other employees.
  • Make sound decisions based on the logical gathering of information.
  • Assist in the training of others.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and rules including those pertaining to confined workspace areas.
  • Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, lift heavy loads and work in cramped spaces.
  • Ability to perform all job duties in a safe manner.
  • High school graduation or GED equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience is required in a wastewater or drinking water treatment plant in excess of 4 MGD capacity (wastewater experience is preferred), or in a large industrial facility.
  • A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
  • At least two years of college level electronics training which included technical training in the area of electrical controls; or At least 5 years of industrial electronics/controls experience; or An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Colorado Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Under limited supervision, troubleshoots and repairs electronic equipment and controls such as relay logic, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), integrated circuits (IC) and other types of process controllers and instrumentation.
  • Operates diagnostic equipment including current signal generators, regulated power supplies, multi-meters, and electronic printed circuit card soldering and de-soldering equipment.
  • Helps maintain and calibrate field instrumentation devices, flow meters, sensors, and laboratory equipment.
  • Installs and maintains digital, serial and analog interface between instrumentation, PLC input/output and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computers.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains computer networking equipment and serial interfacing.
  • May be required to repair electronic printed circuit cards to the component level.
  • Installs conduit, wiring and/or equipment as needed.
  • May perform the duties of similar classifications of equal or lower pay grade and typically perform many of the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic.
