About The Position

This position involves providing writing support to students across various disciplines, from brainstorming to final editing. The role includes community outreach, working with community groups on collaborative writing projects like grant applications and oral histories, and coordinating with faculty on recruitment initiatives at local high schools. Tutors will conduct one-on-one consultations in-person and via Zoom at the Brigham City Writing Center, assist with in-class writing and research assignments, and support students throughout the statewide system.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Understanding of the writing process.
  • Strong foundation of grammatical and documentation skills.
  • Welcoming demeanor.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Patience.
  • Ability to work independently with little oversight.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and desktop computing.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong, proven background in English.
  • Experience with ESL in any capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Work one-on-one with students across the disciplines on various aspects of writing projects from brainstorming to composing to editing and documenting sources.
  • Work with students from a variety of backgrounds and levels of writing proficiency.
  • Conduct in-person and Zoom consultations at the Brigham City Writing Center.
  • Be available to help campus students with in-class writing and research assignments.
  • Help students in the region and throughout the statewide system.
  • Engage in community outreach, working with community groups on collaborative writing projects (e.g., grant applications and oral histories).
  • Coordinate with faculty members on recruitment initiatives at local high schools, which may include classroom visits and presentations.
