About The Position

MedSchoolCoach is seeking individuals passionate about education and assisting students applying to medical school. In collaboration with a physician advisor, the writing advisor will guide applicants through the application process. This includes helping applicants draft, revise, and edit their personal statements, activities sections, secondary applications, and other materials to ensure polished, compelling, and representative documents.

Requirements

  • BA and an MA in the humanities or a "writing-heavy" major (additional professional experience may be substituted for an MA).
  • 2+ years of experience in education (e.g., university teaching/TA, K-12 teaching, tutoring, paraprofessional/instructional assistant, ELA curriculum development).
  • 2+ years in a writing-heavy role (e.g., editing, grant writing, journalism, content writing).

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong working relationship with the physician advisor, acting as a unified team to support the applicant.
  • Assist the applicant in restructuring content and ensuring responses and essays have a logical and cohesive flow.
  • Provide suggestions and guiding questions to enable the applicant to develop content.
  • Edit materials for clarity, tone, and syntax.
  • Proofread materials for grammar and word choice.
  • Answer questions about the writing process for specific materials.
  • Provide relevant and actionable feedback.
  • Maintain a supportive environment for the applicant.
