About The Position

Libraries build community. At RPL, we’re on a mission to provide Regina residents with opportunities to discover, learn and connect in an inclusive, customer-centred, and safe environment — and we could use your help. Residency: September 8, 2026 - June 28, 2027 Regina Public Library invites applications from accomplished Canadian writers for the position of Writer in Residence. This is a full-time position (36.25 hours per week) and may include days, evenings and/or weekends. The Writer in Residence will devote 45% (16 hours per week) of their time to working with Regina Public Library to schedule and deliver library programs, community/school visits, and one-to-one consultations/mentorship, and 55% of their time to personal writing projects. The residency is to be conducted in-person in Regina. The Writer in Residence will be provided with an office in a Regina Public Library branch. Regina is a vibrant prairie community known for its welcoming atmosphere, cultural institutions, and beautiful green spaces. Regina is built around Wascana Centre, one of the largest urban parks in North America. Regina offers an excellent quality of life, with a strong sense of community, affordable living, and easy access to parks and cultural experiences. Regina Public Library (RPL) is a dynamic and community-focused public institution dedicated to helping residents discover, learn, and connect. With multiple branches across the city, RPL serves as a welcoming hub where people of all ages can explore ideas, improve literacy, build skills, and participate in community life. Requirements

  • Published works, and a background in the literary field in Canada
  • Experience working with the public in one-to-one and group settings
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Encouraging attitude with a strong ability to inspire others
  • Instruction and facilitation experience in the area of creative writing
  • Experience mentoring emerging writers and a demonstrated ability to provide constructive criticism in a compassionate manner
  • Experience working effectively with technology
