The Watershed Planning Program (WPP) within the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is seeking an intern to contribute to its mission of protecting, enhancing, and restoring the quality and value of the Commonwealth's waters. This role will support WPP's efforts in monitoring, assessing, and reporting on surface water conditions, with a specific focus on developing and enhancing a lake and pond database. This database will support various WPP initiatives, including a statewide volunteer monitoring program, improved assessment of Aquatic Life Use, identification of areas needing future monitoring, and prioritization of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). The project involves expanding an existing database with data elements such as physical attributes, locational information, data sources, characteristics, and metadata. Project objectives include coalescing existing WPP data, gathering information from partner agencies and public resources, consolidating and comparing modeled data with observed data, summarizing spatial data, and compiling biodiversity data.
