About The Position

The Digital Modernization Group at Leidos has an opening for the Navy’s Service Management, Integration and Transport (SMIT) Piers Connectivity Services program as a Wireless Piers Connectivity Services (WPCS) Enterprise Piers Connectivity Architecture (EPCA) Technician. The SMIT contract will provide secure end-to-end Information Technology (IT) services to more than 400,000 hardware devices and 600,000+ users at over 1,600 Continental United States (CONUS) sites and over 82 OCONUS site across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East; constituting one of the largest combined networks in the world. Under the Piers Connectivity Services portion of the contract, the Leidos team will provide pier side connect/disconnect service, network administration, and fiber optic cable repair supporting US Navy vessels arriving and departing from piers throughout the CONUS Theatre.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Valid DoD 8570 IAT Level II: Security+ or higher Certification – If candidate already has a certification such as CCNA, CCST or NAVSEA Shipboard Fiber Certification requirement for Security+ can be waivered for 6 months.
  • Must possess one of the following certifications at the time of hire and obtain the other within 6 months of date of hire: -DoD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ or equivalent), or -NAVSEA Shipboard Fiber Certification or Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Networking Certification.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IT enterprise operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for reviewing and maintaining program documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to clearly communicate findings to leadership.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with fiber optic cabling installation, testing, and repair.
  • NAVSEA Shipboard Fiber Certification (KITCO or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the physical deployment and retrieval of network equipment to vessels during port calls, ensuring all hardware is accounted for and in good working order.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Cisco IOS, Juniper OS and Cambium for the configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting of Switches via Command Line Interface.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of switch-port configurations, VLAN tagging, and sub-netting tasks to ensure seamless integration between the wireless kits and vessel-side network.
  • Support schedule adherence by following leadership direction, executing assigned tasks, and providing timely progress updates.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment by working closely with fellow technicians and actively participating in knowledge sharing and cross-training activities.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to carry out daily tasks, including riser inspections and cleaning, vessel connection/disconnection, cable inspection, and cable repair to restore full mission capability.
  • Leverage existing technical documentation—including “as-is” baseline information, SOPs, local procedures, and workload data (tickets)—to meet Service Level Requirements (SLRs) and performance metrics.
  • Perform asset inventories and reconciliations as directed, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
  • Coordinate the shipment of replacement parts, repair tools, test equipment, consumables, and other operational supplies.
  • Maintain professional, transparent, and respectful working relationships with customers, leadership, and team members.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior personnel, offering guidance and opportunities to develop project management skills.
  • Support fiber cable repairs related to the Piers Connectivity Services Program at your designated location.
