About The Position

Works under supervision to perform wound care duties to patients in an inpatient setting.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • 1 year of RN experience
  • Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license required Upon Hire
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire
  • CERT WOUND OSTOMY NURSE is required within 3 years of hire date

Responsibilities

  • Performs and accurately documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments for all assigned patients.
  • Develops and implements an appropriate plan of care for the patient.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills in planning and prioritizing nursing care for the assigned patients.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of the interventions.
  • Confers with all members of the health care team in a collaborative fashion, sharing information and observations of the patient and/or patient's family in a manner that contributes to optimal patient care.
  • Initiates or maintains actions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients between shifts, units and upon discharge.
  • Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care according to the evaluation.
  • Documents interventions and modifications to the plan of care in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Adheres to appropriate hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways and the accepted standards of the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Board while delivering nursing care to patients.
  • Provides appropriate and timely answers and/or education to patient's and/or patient's families.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of all education provided.
  • Provides supervision of and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel and nurses new to the environment.
  • Delegates duties appropriately and within legal parameters.
  • Assumes accountability for all actions in the workplace.
  • Reports errors promptly and takes appropriate follow-up action to rectify the error.
  • Responds to patient's and/or patients family's complaints in an appropriate and effective manner.
  • Reports complaints to the Clinical Nurse Manager or their designee in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Utilizes the chain of command appropriately to resolve patient, operational, or personal work related problems.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as directed.
  • Completes mandatory training and education modules.
  • Provides education to the community and areas of the hospital that request further information in his/her area of expertise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
