About The Position

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison seeks a World Languages Teaching Faculty member to provide leadership for its World Language Education (WLE) program and mentor pre-service candidates across a range of target languages. The program prepares secondary educators through research-based licensing and practice-based field experiences in local classrooms and community-based educational spaces. The position is a 12-month, academic staff, non-tenure-track appointment with an anticipated part-time to full-time workload. The FTE may fluctuate from 50% to 100%, depending on programming needs, budget considerations, and course assignments. Appointments exceeding 50% FTE may include teaching additional courses across the teacher education program, aligned with the candidate’s expertise and program needs. The position combines teaching, candidate supervision and mentorship, program leadership, partnership development, recruitment, and continuous improvement. The faculty member will teach world language education courses, supervise candidates in field placements, mentor field supervisors, manage cohort progress, and support candidates’ application and certification or degree-completion processes. The role also develops collaborative relationships with cooperating teachers and local schools, leads recruitment efforts to support a diverse applicant pool, and collaborates with coordinators in other secondary content areas on program evaluation and state and university reviews. The position’s broader instructional responsibilities include developing and improving teaching methods, assessing learner performance, preparing reports recommending instructional improvements, providing classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and grading, and potentially training staff in effective teaching techniques. It may also involve supervising instructional-support employees, assisting with grant proposals, helping define program objectives and carry out program duties, and presenting instructional programs and techniques to faculty and staff. The minimum annual compensation is $80,000 for a 12-month appointment, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package. Applicants must submit a cover letter, current resume or CV, and a one-page teaching statement describing their values and practices.
