About The Position

The Workplace Accommodation Specialist, Employee Relations serves as the subject matter expert for workplace accommodations and the interactive process. The Specialist works with associates, leaders, Human Resources, Benefits, Leave Administrator, Employee Health, and Legal to evaluate accommodation requests and identify reasonable workplace solutions. The Specialist leads the interactive process, provides guidance on accommodation options, maintains appropriate documentation, and helps resolve complex accommodation situations while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in Employee Relations, Human Resources, workplace accommodations, leave management, compliance, or a related area.
  • Knowledge of workplace accommodation practices and the interactive process.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and related employment laws.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), case management systems, and other business applications.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures in a consistent and practical manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.
  • Ability to create professional correspondence, reports, presentations, and spreadsheet-based analyses.
  • Strong communication, consultation, problem-solving, and case management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the interactive process for workplace accommodation requests and serves as the primary point of contact throughout the accommodation process.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for workplace accommodations and provides guidance to associates, leaders, Human Resources, Employee Health, Benefits, Leave Administration, and other stakeholders.
  • Reviews accommodation requests, supporting documentation, job requirements, and operational needs to identify reasonable workplace accommodation options.
  • Consults with leaders regarding accommodation decisions, implementation, and ongoing management of workplace accommodations.
  • Partners with Benefits, Leave Administrator, Employee Health, Legal, and Human Resources when accommodation matters intersect with leave, medical restrictions, return-to-work processes, or other employment-related matters.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation related to accommodation requests, the interactive process, and case outcomes.
  • Monitors accommodation cases to ensure timely follow-up, implementation, and resolution.
  • Provides guidance regarding workplace accommodations, including matters involving the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and return-to-work situations.
  • Identifies and escalates complex or high-risk accommodation matters to Employee Relations leadership, Legal, or other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to leaders on managing accommodation-related situations and communicating effectively with associates throughout the accommodation process.
  • Provides occasional leadership training sessions on leave or accommodation laws.
  • Creation of accommodation-related resources, tools, procedures, and training materials.
  • Reviews accommodation trends and recurring issues and recommends process improvements to support consistency, compliance, and an effective associate experience.
  • Maintains current knowledge of workplace accommodation practices and applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • Provides Employee Relations support for routine policy questions and workplace concerns by offering practical guidance to leaders and associates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
