About The Position

This is a highly skilled, labor intensive and hazardous position that requires the individual to work outdoors and perform electrical work relating to overhead and underground electrical facilities in a variety of voltages from 110 to 230,000 volts. Typically supervises a group of employees and participates with most crew activities. This position normally reports directly to the General Line Foreman.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience as a lineman in construction and maintenance of overhead and underground transmission and distribution power systems.
  • Must have also demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills during tenure as a lineman.
  • Successful completion of related electrical courses (apprentice program) or equivalent combination of training and related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class “A”.
  • This is a required on-call position and requires on-site response time of 30 minutes at directed location.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute the functions of a work force established by the Electric Transmission and Distribution organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with personnel, contractors, governmental agencies, and to the general public.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Must have the ability to problem solve and evaluate others.
  • Must be able to use independent judgment to restore customer concerns.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and to work alone to complete tasks.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the hazards involved when working around or in energized electrical lines.
  • Ability to work at various heights, (200') or in trenches, vaults, or confined spaces.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors used for locates and phase markings.

Responsibilities

  • Performs construction and maintenance job tasks associated with electrical lines while organizing and directing personnel assigned to achieve the job task designated.
  • Operates bucket trucks, derricks, trenchers, hydraulic tools, chain saws, other tools and equipment as may be required.
  • Conforms to policies and procedures for safe work practices, area protection, proper use of vehicles, tools, and equipment associated with accepted line work practices.
  • Must be able to climb and work off pole to restore power. (perform duties of a lineman)
  • Visually and audibly detects malfunctions of equipment and safety hazards.
  • Works on energized electrical power lines, equipment, and devices without interruption of normal electric service.
  • Physical strength and endurance to lift 80 lbs. to operate tools and equipment for extended periods from bucket, poles, ladders, vaults, trenches or confined space.
  • Communicates politely and clearly with other employees, customers and the general public in person, by two-way radio, and at job sites.
  • Assists in training and instruction of other personnel.
  • Provides "on the job" training in the field to fellow crewmembers on proper use and operation of equipment, climbing techniques and proper procedures and safety practices.
  • Prepares, submits, and conducts written evaluation of assigned personnel, performance evaluations, attendance records, accident reports, may assist in employee selection.
  • Availability for afterhours call out is required including rotation to "stand by" on a regular rotation to qualified personnel.
  • Assists in directing, carrying out, or suggesting procedures for emergency situations.
  • Performs other job tasks as assigned.
