About The Position

This is a full-time, non-union position in the Service Department with benefits and time off upon meeting eligibility requirements. The role ensures the upkeep of all City infrastructures including buildings, vehicles, equipment, parks facilities and grounds. The Working Foreman plans the department’s daily activities and individual job assignments, keeps records of all department operations, and ensures that all department activities are carried out in an effective and efficient manner. This position also processes employee off-time requests, assists with the development and maintenance of the department’s employee training program, and ensures that the City’s safety program and procedures are followed by all department employees. The role maintains a working relationship with other City Departments, recommends purchases including operational supplies, safety supplies, equipment and tools and janitorial supplies, and maintains inventory. Additionally, the Working Foreman assists with the development of the department budgets and department manuals, forms and policies, and evaluates employee performance. The position may be assigned to a shift and requires participation in all city-sponsored training and continuing education activities. Reliable, punctual in-person attendance is expected, and other duties as assigned will be performed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to recognize potentially unsafe conditions and behaviors and correct them in a positive and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to input, access, and retrieve data from the computer.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio, Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
